Becoming Neanderthin

Article: Nutrition for Neanderthals

Dr. Cordain believes that if we resemble closely to the diet of the Neanderthals, we will become healthier, taller, faster and stronger. This may be true not because Dr. Cordain is right, but because by Mother Nature's design of evolution and natural selection.

Although, the benefits of the diet helped the Neanderthals immensely, they didn't live as long as modern humans did. The reason would be: harder lifestyle, lack of medical care due to injuries suffered from hunting or tribal wars, among other reasons. It makes you wonder how long they could live if they matched their diet as well as enjoyed the benefits of modern medicines?

You see, the Neanderthals were hunter-gatherers. They ate a diet of meat, nuts, fruit and vegetables. A diet high in protein and monounsaturated fats. With some carbohydrates. In fact, Dr. Cordain says that if we comply to a diet that is 85% in compliance to the diet of the Neaderthal, we should see a vast improvement to our health.

And notice, that the Neanderthal diet does NOT contain sugars or grains. Farming wasn't invented until 10,000 years ago while the Neanderthals became extinct 24,000 years ago. And 10,000 is a blip in human history.

Our DNA is probably very closely related to our ancestors who lived 40,000 years ago but our diet is vastly different. Are we so arrogant to believe that we know better than Mother Nature?
