The slimming club for fat cats and dogs

Well, humans are not the only species that is having trouble with their weight.

And to be honest, humans ARE responsible for the excessive weight gains of their pets...

From the article: "Half of dogs and cats in Britain are overweight, according to the RSPCA."

Article

Wow! The RSPCA also says if you cannot not easily feel a dog or cat's ribs, it is probably overweight.

Their solution: take pet to expensive club to lose weight. My solution? Take a moment of time and really think about what cats and dogs are supposed to eat(Big hint -- MEAT). If they are eating grains and sugar -- alas -- I suspect many dog and cat foods have these ingredients...

And take them out for a walk if they are shut ins...

Just common sense. No need to spend gazillion bucks.

Oh yeah, take the beer away from the cat. :)

Why Is Everyone Getting Fatter When On A Diet?

If you are dieting -- and it really sucks -- you should consider another approach.

What am I talking about?

I'm glad you asked. I am talking about finding out how your body works and how it processes food.

And you will be surprised, that eating veggies, grass and water is the wrong way to go.

You see, when you restrict calories, your body is way smarter than you. It tells itself, oh-oh! Bad times are a coming.

What does this mean?

Your body slows down its metabolism which is counterproductive to what you are trying to do. As a result, whenever you start your diet, you at first will lost some weight -- but it starts getting harder and harder to lose anymore.

Sounds familiar?

And that is not the worst of it. You see, when you restrict calories, the body must get some energy to support the regular body functions. Since it is in the "starvation mode," the fat that is stored in your body is left alone for future energy storage. Instead, your body metabolizes your muscles!!!

That's right! When you go on a calorie restricted diet, you actually get fatter. Less muscles and the fat is left alone.

That sucks huh? Let's find a better way so that you can eat healthier and not feel like crap all the time.

Did Tim Donaghy Ruin The NBA?

I love sports. I just love watching basketball after the football season is over. You name it. I will watch it...

High School basketball, college basketball and Professional basketball.

And then comes along Tim Donaghy, the NBA referee in the middle of the point-shaving scandal.

Really sad...

I never gamble because I've seen what it does to people at the casinos. I've seen local people get so worked up when an casino opens up near their town...

People do crazy things when they lose money. Lots of money. And then comes along Tim Donaghy.

Is he a victim?

I'm not sure. He willingly gambled and lost a lot of money. It was his responsibility and I personally think he blew it.

He got into trouble with the Mob and the next thing you know...

Tim is covering whatever his Mob bookie wants him too...

Quite frankly, I feel a little dirty...

I may not watch the NBA much this season until they fix the problem

And what is the problem? I think everyone forgot what basketball is all about. Basketball is bigger than any one star, owner, or referee. It is the spectators.

Without them, all the NBA stars who make millions would have to work 9-5 jobs -- just like the rest of us.

OMG! 75% of US Adults will be Overweight by 2015

I don't know how long this article will be posted on Fox but here is the link:

75 Percent of U.S. Adults Will Be Overweight by 2015, Study Says

I believe it is around 66% right now. That is right. 66% of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese. And it is no laughing matter...

Some of my readers will absolutely know what it costs them to be overweight. Medical problems, lack of mobility, poor performance at work due to being tired and so on...

And 41% of the U.S. adults will be obese by 2015. And that my friend is a VERY serious matter. Now we are talking about a serious threat to life...

And what is even more scary is that women and some ethnic populations tend to have a larger proportion of overweight people.

For instance, 80% of Black women over the age of 40 are overweight and 50% of those overweight Black women are obese.

And those living in the southeast -- probably deep south are more likely to be overweight than those who live elsewhere.

The article doesn't conclude WHY exactly but I suspect it is the diet. You see, I believe that our bodies were designed to be lean, mean and healthy but when we feed ourselves with foods that our bodies were not designed for -- all that calories gets saved as fat.

The greatest paradox is that foods that are tasty and plentiful to us -- is killing us by putting ourselves in great danger.

And not to mention being the most miserable experience ever visited on humans. Being humiliated that our body parts jiggle. Being envious of the people who are skinny and wear sexy clothing.

When you are ready -- I mean it. When you are ready, that is the only time you are ever going to fix the overweight problem.

So when you are just mad enough... when you are just humiliated enough... to make that MASSIVE change in your approach to diet and exercise...

ONLY then -- you will succeed. And forget about everyone else. Especially the negative vibes from the "discouragement fraternity."

When you are ready, take a look at some of the books that I have reviewed that is going to work for you because YOU decided to take responsibility and make a change in the way you look and feel about your body.

If Paul Potts can do it, so can you!!!

It may not be PC, but Paul Potts had every going against him. Medical problems, just got married, dead end career, discouragement, bad teeth, bad haircut... you name it.

And at the end of the day, Paul Potts was transformed into a modern day hero. Not just because he has the gift to sing... because he had the guts to try one more time.

Now, if you don't know who I am talking about, I suggest that you head over to youtube.com and look at his video when he sang, "Nessun Dorma."

He will blow you away with his voice!!!

The real point of this is this... don't stop trying. It doesn't have to be all at once. Just a little bit more each day to your goal.

You want to lose fat and gain muscles? Just do a little each day... just get started and do it today!

Winning Through Intimidation

Recently, I read a great book by Robert J. Ringer, "Winning Through Intimidation."

This book was written in 1973 and is remarkably current in today's society.

Robert wrote about his experiences and model theories that are applicable to anything you do in life.

One of his theories is "Organic Chemistry Theory." This theory was based on his college experience in his chemistry class. He described this know-it-all in the lab. The guy practically juggled test tubes and worked effortlessly through the experiments.

And let everyone know about it.

Robert called this guy the "Court Holder." When someone knows-it-all and explains how utterly simple it all is.. he is a court holder. We all know someone like this.

To continue the story...

And poor Robert Ringer... he was so confused. So he hit the books every night studying as hard as he could... just so that he could catch up.

And then the day of the exam. Robert got the highest score in the class, way above anyone else. And the court holder? He scored about the median. That meant half the class did better than him...

Go figure...

So don't let anyone intimidate you by being a know-it-all. Chances are... it is his ego talking.

Nicole Richie is Thinner than a Rail - But is She Sexy?

If you believe the National Enquirer and Star magazines...

They would have you believe that Nicole Richie is in rehab for addition to pills and treatment for anorexia.

Wow.

And they say she only weighs 83 pounds...

Double wow.

What can I say when a girl in her twenties weights less than 99% of the adults in the civilized world?

It makes you wonder what kind of pressure she puts on herself to be this way... And being severely malnourished is NOT good thing at all...

I seriously doubt even with all her fame and fortune -- she is happy.

So your number one goal today should be this... what can I do to make myself happy?

Write it down. And do it!!!

Jessica Alba Thinks She is Fat

Say it isn't true Joe!!!

In spite of Victoria's Secret selecting Jessica Alba as the sexiest actress... Jessica Alba has neurosis and self doubts about her image.

Go figure.

We all have seen her pictures and movies -- we scratch our heads and wonder if she has "lost her marbles."

She said at the interview with the Rolling Stone magazine, "I hear people in this industry talking s*** all the time about how Jennifer Lopez is fat," she says tersely. "And I know if they're calling her fat, they're saying the same s*** about me."

Wow.

But the truth is...

A LOT of people feel the same way! So you have a choice -- either waste your time and energy worrying about what people think about you and more importantly, worrying about what YOU think of yourself.

If you ask me, worrying is a waste of time. Either it is something that will never happen or it is an act of procrastination.

If it's the latter, I heard 'em all. And they are all B.S.!!!

And we will never do anything unless the pain of NOT doing it becomes greater than the pain of actually doing it.

Read the above sentence again...

If you dare, get Tom Venuto's eBook -- Burn the Fat Feed the Muscles. It is THAT GOOD!

Battle of the Sexes is causing weight gains

I recently read an article named... "Cohabitation is Bad for Women's Health."

Oh God. (sigh) As soon as I read this article, I knew it was gonna be a good one -- and controversial to boot!

To sum up this article, "Dietitians have found that women tend to gain weight once they move in with male partners. "

I really, really find this theory hard to believe because most people make bad eating choices BEFORE they meet anyone.

If anything, women may restrict their eating to slim themselves while dating. While I do commend anyone who wants to maintain a healthy and slim lifestyle, following a diet that severely restricts your calories is NOT a good idea.

I just wanted to throw that in before moving on...

However, I wonder if this article was written by someone who just wants to restart the battle between sexes.

To me, it is just a crutch to blame someone else for your bad eating choices. After all, I have NEVER heard of anyone being forced to eat pizza, sodas, junk food and other crappy foods at gun point.

This is a ridiculous image huh?

What do you think?

Exercise experts pick top 10 fitness myths

Dallas Morning News | News for Dallas, Texas | Life/Travel: Health

The writer asked several fitness experts to pick out the top 10 fitness myths.

Here are my favorites:

1. Sit-ups or crunches will burn fat off your abs.

2. There is an easy way to lose weight.
4. Weightlifting makes women big and bulky.

Ab flab is probably one of the most common complaints of adults in modern society. As a result, the professional marketers know this and target those people in magazine ads and info commercials on tee vee.

But the truth of the matter is, you can have the greatest rock hard ab muscles in the world but as long as you have fat, you will never see it. So the key thing to do is to work on overall body exercises and nutrition. The abs will come later...

The second issue is that seeking an easy way to lose weight is a losing proposition(pun intended). Losing weight is simple but not easy. You have to focus on the proper nutrition and exercises that will burn fat like nobody's business. But you have to do it. Nutrition and exercises is simpler than you think...

The last one is the oldie but goody. Jamie Eason, the gorgeous fitness model has said this too, if you want to lose fat, you must build up your muscles. Worrying about looking like those East German athletes of twenty years ago is NOT going to happen. They took steroids.

Women can look sleek and toned with muscles. So try using dumbells or rubber bands instead of listening to people who don't know what they are talking about. See how your body responds. I think you will be pleased...

Anna Nicole Smith & the TRIMSPA Controversy

Anna Nicole Smith: TRIMSPA or Slim-Fast?

Anna Nicole Smith. How she seemed to love to fascinate and shock people! Playmate of the year in the 90's, sleazy reality tv show, drugs, fluctuating weight, and the question of the father of her 5 month daughter.

Anna Nicole Smith was the spokesperson for diet product company, Trimspa. And both are being sued in a class-action lawsuit alleging their marketing of a weight loss pill is false or misleading.

And to top all that, Anna Nicole Smith was seen with products from Slim Fast. I assume that TRIMSPA has been very unhappy about this and may have been considering the option of firing her.

But Anna Nicole Smith's death has made the point moot.

What do you think? Did diet products work for you?

88 Years Young and Still Going Strong!

Seniors find anti-aging elixer: Exercise

While statistics show the older people get, the less likely they are to exercise, a lot of seniors are bucking this trend.

All I can say about this is "Good for them!!!"

I was in California last week for my best friend's wedding. I have pictures to prove it, but she was definitely NOT acting her age! She was dancing and laughing. And she is 88 years old.

I teased my friend and asked him when is his mother going to "act her age." :)

"Never," he replied with a grin.

My point is don't let age limit your life. In fact, start now so that when you get older, your body doesn't have all the years of bad nutrition and lack of exercise breaking it down.

Short bursts of exercise could boost weight loss

Short bursts of exercise could boost weight loss

It is a little cutting edge but there are some truths to interval exercises. Now, I am not a medical expert but I do read a lot of material on fat loss.

And my understanding of this is that interval sprinting exercise routine kicks butt when compared to aerobic exercises.

First of all, aerobic exercises doesn't help your heart. It just trains the body to endure longer periods of movements. Think about it, lots of people actually die while jogging. And didn't that jogging guru, Jim Fixx dies while jogging?

If you just supposed that in the long history of human beings -- we actually spend lots of time running at the top of our speed to kill the Woolly Mammoth or running away from the Sabertooth Tigers. I don't see those cavemen jogging to get from one place or another. But they did do a lot of walking (which by the way is a great exercise for us.).

So it is either walking or running really really fast. So why the obsession with joggers?

Take two cabbages and an egg | NEWS.com.au

Take two cabbages and an egg | NEWS.com.au

Everyone has some favorite natural cold remedy. I subscribe to the cold shower theory. I take cold showers every morning and I live up in the northwest part of the country.

I got the idea from a man who swears by it and takes a pitcher of cold water and walks outside twice a day in bare feet and dumps the water over his head. Since he lives in northern Canada, it means he walks outside in the snow and does his thing.

Am I crazy? Maybe so but I can tell you this story and let you decide...

I visited a very good friend over the holiday in another state. When I got back home, she called and said that she was very sick with the flu and hoped I didn't catch it too.

Well, you know what is going to happen... I started feeling the symptoms of a flu, sore throat and stuffy nose.

And I am going on no!!! It is going to be a bad one since I haven't been sick for two years. I have no antibodies left.

But the symptoms left at the end of the day and I didn't come down with the flu!

My poor friend was out of it for four long days...

The only thing I could think of was the cold showers. You see, ancient cultures believed that cold water enervates your nervous systems and boosts your immune systems.

I totally believe that the cold showers saved my bacon. Are you gonna try it now?

Fitness and Success Goes Hand in Hand

Phenomenal Functional Fitness for Life: Persistence

Ryan has a cool blog on fitness and motivation. In one of his latest posts he writes:

Physical training is a superb way to train your mind to succeed in other aspects of your life.

And I agree with Ryan here 100%. Everything that I have heard, seen or read all say the same thing -- that successful people take responsibility and take control of their mind.

Vary Your Workout Routines so You don't Get Bored!

World-Class Instructor Brings New Workout To Madison - Money

Boxing Workout Routines Popular On East, West Coasts

Interesting article which brings up a great point. Vary your workout routines so you don't get bored. Get a Tae-bo tape or some other workout routine tape that you can do at home.

Try sprinting instead of jogging. Have you ever done any pullups? Great exercise but if you can't even do one... try anyway but make it an isometric exercise. Pull up and make a "SSSS" sound through your teeth.

Let your imagination run wild. You don't have to be great or even good to get the exercise benefits. Just do it!

China's Wealth Breeds Obesity

Bloomberg.com: Asia

China's Wealth Breeds Obesity, Sparking Boom in Stomach Surgery. Well, it seems that obesity isn't a western problem anymore. In fact, some would argue that obesity has been exported by the western world into China.

In a more serious note, it is getting more and more obvious why obesity is becoming an epidemic. Lack of exercise plus excessive consumption of simple carbohydrates and bad fats.

And it really doesn't matter historically, how lean your ancestors are so you can't blame everything on the fat gene. The Chinese are one of the skinniest people on the planet and if they are getting fat, the fat gene theory is getting thrown out the window.

And it is ironic that the foods that are bad for you in the developed countries are usually cheaper than the healthy foods. It is is the opposite in the underdeveloped countries. And guess which side has an abundance of a healthy population? This is such an interesting subject that I will definitely talk about at a later post.

Strong Man -- Otto Arco

Not many people know about Otto Arco (his real name was Otto Nowosielsky). He was only 5'2" and 138 pounds soaking wet.

But he was incredibly strong and was a champion wrestler.

Otto Arco was born in Poland in 1881. He won the Austrian wrestling title in 1903 at the age of 22.

He was considered pound for pound... the strongest man alive.

It seems the methods the early strongmen used has faded away in history. Nowadays, everyone wants to use weights, isolation exercises and floor situps to achieve fitness goals. But what is happening is that the modern warriors are also getting hurt more often and not as strong. Sure they have big muscles but they don't have functional muscles.

Doesn't Matter Where You are From or How Old

Cayman Islands - Cay Compass News Online - Bodybuilder makes his mark

Meet Xavier D’Souza. He is from India but lives in the Grand Cayman. Xavier is also 37 years young. He has won bodybuilding trophies for the past few years and shows no slowing down.

He stopped by for an interview and the interviewer couldn't help noticing that he is a soft spoken gentleman that is remarkably humble...

Xavier credits body building for opportunities as well as keeping him healthy and fit. He does state that bodybuilding is for the serious athletes because they need to eat every three hours and train 5-6 days a week.

And he likes to say to all the people when he is on the stage, that he always gives his best no matter what placing he gets.

Sounds like a good guy to me!

Wouldn't it surprise you to know that Tom Venuto's book, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle already spells out the exercise and diet plan to follow to cut down your body fat and build your muscles. And sure, not everyone has the right body but you can make yours the best you want it to be...

The Great Gama of India

The Great Gama of India (1882-1960) was 5'7" and 260 pounds. He was the world wrestling champion of his times. He retired undefeated in 5,000 matches. He made a challenge to other famous wrestling champions around the world. Most of them refused to fight Gama. As George Forman would say, "They are scared of me!" :)

If you look at his image to the left, you will see massive tree trunks for legs.

If you wondered how he developed them, he did Hindu squats and Hindu jumper squats. No fancy free weights. No isolation weights. Just simple Hindu squats that trains the legs as one unit.
